Lunchtime Writing at Whittington Park Community Centre
2026
Since February 2026 we have been running a Lunchtime Writing workshop at Whittington Park Community Centre. These workshops are due to continue in 6 week blocks this Spring, in the Autumn and Winter. Dates for the next blocks will appear on the next poster.
PAST PROJECTS
Creative Writing Group (Pilot):
Whittington Park Community Centre
May 2025 / 20 Attendees
We were commissioned to devise and deliver a 10 week creative writing course for adults over 55 at Whittington Park Community Centre. To conclude the course, participants were invited to submit their works for a group publication. The group became known as the ‘Whittington Park Creative Writers’, who named the publication ‘Wildwriting’, reflecting the diverse voices in the publication.
Physical copies were distributed at a publication launch. The public were invited, and members were welcome to read their work at the live event.

Milton Keynes Gallery: Workshop for
'An Unfinished World' by Saul Leiter
May 2024 / 20 Attendees
We were invited to Milton Keynes Gallery to deliver 'Long Story Short' in response to ‘An Unfinished World’, an exhibition of the work of Saul Leiter. In this workshop, we focused on examining Leiter’s work through the lens of flash-fiction. Participants used prompts to generate a body of creative writing, to then use as material for creating a visual ‘snapshot’ of their writing.

Theatre Deli: Session Two
January 2024 / 10 Attendees
Theatre Deli’s 'Deli Meets' programme offered us two Long Story Short workshops. In this second installment we invited participants to first create an image from prompts then respond to it through writing.

Creative Writing Group (Pilot) at Whittington Park Community Centre,
May 2025 / 20 Attendees
We were commissioned to devise and deliver a 10 week creative writing course for adults over 55 at Whittington Park Community Centre. To conclude the course, participants were invited to submit their completed works for a group publication.
The group became known as the ‘Whittington Park Creative Writers’, who named the publication ‘Wildwriting’. The name reflects the wild variety and diversity of voices in the publication, which included nature writing, life writing, flash fiction and poetry.
Thomas helped with the design and publication printing, and the physical copies were distributed at a publication launch. The public were invited, and members were welcome to read their work at the live event.

Theatre Deli: Session One
November 2023 / 10 Attendees
As part of Theatre Deli’s 'Deli Meets' programme, we hosted our first funded Long Story Short with support from a grant from Engage. We welcomed a dozen people to experiment with creating haiku's and cinquains before responding to these through collage and image making. This workshop was free to attend.
LOT Projects: Long Story Short (Pilot)
Summer solstice 2023 / 20 Attendees
For summer solstice 2023, we launched our first Long Story Short workshop at LOT Projects, Hackney. We took the solstice as our inspiration for creative writing prompts and image-making cues. We made the most of the fact that the double-fronted door to the space was facing west, as we bathed in the evening glow of the longest day of the year. The event was free to attend, with a suggested donation for St. Mary’s Secret Garden, Hackney.
